I just love my Irobot. This is my 2nd one and much better one, too. It clean the floor and carpet. It take some pressure off my bad back, when I’m vacuuming. It even clean the bathroom floor and tiles too. When the battery is running low, the Irobot, goes directly to it dock and recharge.

We bought the Roomba 530 recently, and now we can’t imagine life without it. If you’re looking for a tool to help around the house, this is the perfect one. We have not broken out our vacuum since purchasing our Roomba 3 months ago. However, before you spend the $$$ on a Roomba, you should be aware of a few realistic facts:

- Roomba is not a do-all miracle worker. After every room and a half, you must clean Roomba’s brushes (especially if you have pets). Just like a standard vacuum, the Roomba will not work as efficiently with brushes covered in hair. We found this out when our Roomba stopped abruptly one day and asked us politely to “clean my brushes”. If you except it to clean 5 rooms without cleaning it, you will be disappointed.

- Be patient while Roomba cleans. It will not be done in 5 minutes. We like to start it cleaning then leave, that way when we come home the job is done.

- You will have to move furniture. Our Roomba gets stuck under the couch, so we have to block it off with rolled up towels. You will have to move chairs if you want a thorough cleaning. While it will maneuver around tight places, the Roomba will get the job done much quicker if you move things around.

- You will have to move some cords out of the way. I’ve witnessed our Roomba going over computer and lamp cords without a problem, but one day it had a fight with the cord attached to the blinds. Luckily, the Roomba will not destroy any cords, it’s programmed to “back out” if it sucks them up, but our Roomba lost the battle with the blinds cord and shut itself off. We have never had a problem with it destroying any cords, but if you have a rug with long fringe you might want to tuck it under.

Things we love about our Roomba:
- This model docks itself after it’s done
- It will talk to you if something’s wrong (“Please clean my brushes”)
- It is amazing at getting into tight places and finding its way out
- It’s fun to watch
- It easily moves from carpet to hard floors
- It doesn’t take a lot to block off an area (we use rolled up towels)
- It has never sucked and destroyed any of our cords that were left out

In conclusion, we love-love-love our Roomba, but don’t purchase a Roomba if your expectations are along the lines of Rosie off of the Jetsons. If you are willing to clean your Roomba after every large room, if you are willing to move chairs around and block off areas before you start your Roomba, and if you are willing to give it 30-45 minutes for it to clean a large room, then spend the $$$ to buy a Roomba. You will not be disappointed.

ok, does it do as well as a really GREAT manual vacuum.
No. But just run it and see how much junk it picks up.
We have 2 long hair cats and 2 long hair teenage boys.
I run it a few times a week just to keep up and it does great. All the little stuff that used to just collect on the floors for weeks until I could get the time or browbeat a kid into vacuuming – gone. Oh, sure there are a few corners that it can’t reach but I couldn’t reach them either without moving stuff. For general cleaning, this is great. I hope it lasts because if it doesn’t I’ll just buy another! And in the mudroom where we have 2 cat boxes and their dry food? That used to go for weeks and was just unbelievably filthy. Now once a week I drop off Roomba and let her at it and it is amazingly clean.

It takes some maintenance but it is very well designed and very easy to clean. And it’ll tell you when it needs it!
